Indie Films

A lot of people love watching movie. I personally enjoy watching films of different genre. Like drama, sci-fi, humor, animation, musical, action and adventure, suspense and a lot more.
We have different perspectives on what film we enjoys the most but we have the same reason why we want to watch a movie. It is because we are simply looking for a good story, preferably one we can relate to. Some of us often dream about that someday we can be the character on our favorite movie. It is our escape from reality

Every month, film Production Company releases new film in cinemas for the moviegoers. Those big companies use famous actor, award winning film director, and amazing settings with huge production budget. But now there is a new trend in motion pictures. That is Art films or also known as Independent films.

Indie film is a serious, noncommercial, or independently made film that is not aimed for a mass audience.

Now days, it is not impossible for someone to make a film. With the help of advance technology and love for arts you can produce a film. That’s why there are many foreign independent film makers.

Before I’m not a fan of Indie films. I found it confusingly disturbing because of the twist and turns of the story. But after watching “Lolita” an American Indie film about a 12-year-old girl who fell in love with his stepfather and “Irreversible” another tragic film. My thoughts have change. I notice that Indie films are the mirror of what is really happening to the society.

“Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” is the only local Indie film that I have watched. This film has earned for itself several local and international exhibitions, nominations and awards, including the Montreal World Film Festival, Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival all in 2005. It serves as an eye opener to the Filipinos that Independent films do exist here in the Philippines. Because of the huge success of this Film internationally and locally many young Filipino film makers has arise. More Indie films were produced. Some did not succeed but some followed the steps of what “Ang Pagdadalaga ni maximo Oliveros” has earned.

One of those films that made it was “Serbis”nominated for 61st Cannes Film Festival. “Kubrador” won four awards and 16 nominations from international film festivals, within 2006, including the Moscow International Film Festival for Best Picture, the Osian-Cinefan International Film Festival, and the Vancouver International Film Festival. And lastly “Donsol” have won in the Asian Marine Film Festival and Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival in 2006, as well as earned was the official selection for other film festivals including the Cairo International Film Festival and the Asian Festival of 1st Films.

I said earlier that Independent film is the mirror of what is really happening in the society. It shows only reality. The Indie film makers use their imagination to show this reality artistically to the audience even if they know that there is no lot of money they can earn in making these films. They made this for the sake of arts.

I can say that they did a marvelous job in making the moviegoers entertain. And I hope more Independent films were produced to earn more awards and inspire people.

(this is my research project in english lit. eh ano ngayon? gusto ko lang i-share.lol)
